I’m going to get all fancy with my answer – my favourite colour is “171 angstrom”! This isn’t a colour that our eyes can see, but our telescopes can. Imagine a Dulux colour chart with the different colours ordered red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet – then my colour is after violet! We call it “extreme ultra-violet”, and most of the movies I make of the Sun are using telescopes looking at this colour. The Sun looks boring in visible light (the colours we can see), but so much more interesting in 171 angstrom. Of course to actually see it, we pretend this colour is like an orangey-yellow.
On my profile page there is a picture that explains the different colours we can see the Sun in. If you want to check out these colours yourself, have a look at the Sun right now at https://www.helioviewer.org/ and pick “171” on the left hand menu. It’s worth it!
