Recent films like the Martian or Gravity did a pretty good job with most of the science. Certainly better than films like Sunshine or the Core.

On top of Stephen’s list of films, I would like to add that “2001: A Space Odyssey” is also very realistic scientifically (if you take away the fictional bits), and also “Interstellar”.

I’d have to agree with Stephen and Mark on this one. When it comes to realism a lot of Hollywood films tend to gloss over some of the science because it wouldn’t fit well with the plot line.

I agree with Stephen and Mark too, now there are some great films that use the realism of space. The pictures and visual effects of the black hole in Interstellar were actually made by a team who study black holes for a job, and they published a paper about the work they did!
