Being a scientist just means you ask questions, and try and investigate them in a logical way. Scientists try to use evidence and facts, not the opinions of other people or even their own. As a kid I always asked loads of questions, I was really curious and wanted to know how things worked. So I guess I have always been a scientist!

In terms of how long have I used science in my career, ever since I left university I used scientific ideas in my job and now my research. I think if you curious about anything, go and investigate it yourself, don’t just believe anything you are told – be a scientist!

I don’t think I was ever not interested in science, but I also believe science has no boundaries; cooking is chemistry, and toy making engineering – its just badly badged.
